Why might I not want to buy the cheapest TV available?

By Price Alone

If you're just looking for a big TV at a relatively low price, you can find it. Here are some of the considerations that might prompt you to spend a little more:

  • Some flat screen televisions don't reproduce blacks well. If possible, test a new TV in the store using a DVD with some night scenes that have dim lighting.
  • If you plan to connect your flat TV to a high-definition DVD player, gaming system or other source of high-quality pictures, be sure it has an HDMI input.
  • Pay attention to the remote control. Is it conveniently laid out so you can find the important buttons without taking your eyes off the screen? Does it have backlighting so you can find the correct buttons in the dark?
